Wisdom Teeth Extraction
Wisdom Teeth is the name given to the last or 3rd molars in your mouth. They usually grow into the mouth in your late teens or early adulthood, between the ages of 17 and 21. The eruption of these teeth was supposed to correspond with the arrival of maturity and ‘wisdom’, hence the name. Generally speaking, everybody has Wisdom Teeth, though some may be missing one or more of them.
The extraction of Wisdom Teeth refers to the removal of your wisdom teeth from their socket. Wisdom Teeth can sometimes be “impacted” (stuck and unable to grow normally), resulting in recurring gum infections unless removed. A wisdom tooth itself may also crowd or damage the molar next to it and its roots, or damage the jaw bone and its nerves. When the wisdom tooth grows toward adjacent teeth, it can trap plaque and debris making your teeth more vulnerable to decay.
Other Dental Extractions are performed for a variety of reasons, but are most commonly done to remove teeth that are damaged due to Periodontal Disease, tooth decay, or from dental trauma such as a toothache or even a sports injury. With Orthodontics, if teeth are crowded, healthy teeth may be extracted in order to create space for the remaining teeth.
