What makes dental implants the treatment of choice?
Dental implants feel much more natural and secure than traditional removable denture plates, especially if these are loose-fitting because of extensive bone loss. Dental Implants can provide support for a full denture, making it secure which enables you to eat and speak more comfortably and with confidence. If several adjacent teeth are missing, a fixed bridge may be attached to dental implants as an alternative to a removable partial denture plate. Implants allow replacement of missing teeth without having to change or modify adjacent teeth.
Am I a candidate for a dental implant?
Low cost dental implants are appropriate for almost anyone who is missing teeth or at risk of losing teeth. Occasionally, older patients express concerns that their age may prevent them from enjoying the benefits that dental implants offer. However, health is more of a determining factor than age. If you’re healthy enough to have a tooth extracted, you’re probably healthy enough to receive dental implants. There are very few medical reasons why you may not be a candidate to receive a dental implant. Your dentist will discuss these with you. The major limiting factor in determining whether you can have an implant to replace a missing tooth is whether there is sufficient bone remaining to accept the implant. This can be determined with an x-ray and a thorough examination of your oral tissues and supporting bone (jaw). Ask us your dental implant questions today!
Is the dental implant procedure painful?
Dental implant surgery is often minor and similar to having a tooth removed. Many people have said they have gone back to work the next day. Our dental professionals are here to ensure your complete comfort during dental implant procedures.
What do dental implants costs?
Each patient’s treatment needs are different and unique, your treatment coordinator will discuss the cost of your individual dental treatment plan. Generally speaking the cost of treatment with most implants is comparable to other restorations involving fixed bridgework. Dental insurance does not pay for implant treatment unless an accident is involved, but like other medical expenses your cost of treatment is tax deductible. This deduction may be 25% of the treatment cost.
How long will the implants last?
Research and documented scientific studies have proven the effectiveness and long lasting results of implants once they have been integrated with bone. However, each patient is different and it is impossible to predict dental implant life with complete certainty. Dental implants have a success rate of greater than 90% and over 25 years of scientific documentation. Indeed there are implants that have been successful for over 25 years. Factors thought to affect the longevity of implants are your overall health, nutrition, oral hygiene, commitment to regular dental visits or professional maintenance and whether you use tobacco products. Other factors are your anatomy and the design and construction of the restoration placed on the implants to restore dental functionality.
What are the advantages of dental implants?
Support replacement teeth similarly to the way a tooth root supports natural teeth. Can replace a single lost tooth or many missing teeth. Are an effective and long-lasting solution for restoring natural-looking teeth and beautiful smiles. Provide an alternative to ill-fitting dentures that often wobble, click, slip and slide around the mouth. Are not subject to cavities or temperature sensitivity.
What are the four common dental problems and our effective implant solutions
- Missing one: A tooth and its roots are missing. A dental implant and ceramic crown becomes the permanent replacement.
- Missing several: Three teeth and their roots are missing. A fixed bridge anchored on dental implants gives optimal strength.
- Missing all: All teeth and roots in the lower jaw are missing. Dental implants provide enough stability to carry a full fixed denture.
- Improve existing: A front tooth has been damaged. A new ceramic crown is used for the best esthetic result.
Whether you want better looking teeth or are missing teeth, at AXIS Dental, we provide beautiful, long-lasting, natural-looking teeth on implants that will make you smile.
How long will dental implant treatment take from start to finish?
Total treatment time will be around six months for the lower jaw and nine months for the upper jaw. If bone addition procedures are required to increase bone volume, additional time may be necessary. Here is a typical step by step explanation as to how confident smiles are restored.
Initial consultation: We take a total team approach to coordinated care based on the implant option that is best for you. During the initial consultation, an individualized treatment plan is developed by a team of AXIS Dental Group professionals specially trained and experienced in oral surgery and restorative dentistry.
Step one: During your first appointment, your old tooth/teeth will be removed. The tooth root implant, which is a small post made of titanium, is placed into the bone socket of the missing tooth. Temporary crowns are added. The healing process can take from 6-12 weeks. As the jawbone heals, it grows around the implanted metal post, anchoring it securely in the jaw.
Step two: Once the implant has fused/bonded to the jawbone, a small connector post (abutment) is attached to the post to securely hold the new tooth. To make the new tooth or teeth, impressions of your teeth are made. The impressions accurately depict and record all of your teeth, their type, and arrangement. Your new implanted tooth is based on this model. Your AXIS Dental Group dental professional will match the colour of the new teeth to your natural teeth.
Step three: The replacement tooth/crown is attached to the abutment. Because the implant is secured within the jawbone, the replacement teeth look, feel, and function just like your own natural teeth. Instead of one or more individual crowns, some patients may have attachments placed on the implant that retain and support a removable denture.

5 More Advantages of Dental implants:
- Not only will you feel more comfortable when eating, smiling, laughing and kissing, your speech will improve. Ill-fitting dentures, missing or decayed teeth are notorious for causing mumbling and/or slurring of words. Dental implants allow you to speak clearly and confidently – without worry or fear.
- It’s a fact that some denture-wearers avoid healthy (crunchy) foods because they are difficult or painful to eat. Not anymore. Dental implants will allow you to enjoy the foods you’ve always loved.
- Dental implants will improve the way you look and feel about yourself. Your confidence and self-esteem will be restored.
- Forget about the embarrassment and inconvenience of removing dentures. Because dental implants are permanent, you’ll be caring for your teeth they way you used to.
- Dental implants eliminate the need to compromise adjacent teeth, in comparison to a conventional bridge which requires the slight removal of tooth structure. The adjacent teeth are required to be shaved or ground down slightly). Nearby teeth do not need modifications to support implanted teeth.
