When Should a Child First Visit the Dentist?
The appearance of the first tooth is an excellent time to schedule a dental evaluation for your child. We’ll answer any questions your may have about caring for your child’s teeth and we’ll also diagnose and help prevent any future oral health disorders.
How to Prepare your Child for Their First Dental Visit
Your positive attitude will convey the message that dental visits are pleasant adventures and Dental Care professionals are great people to be around. Try to schedule the appointment for the time of day when your child is most rested, relaxed and cooperative.
What to Expect During the First Preventive Dentistry Visit
During your child’s first visit, they’ll have an opportunity to explore our treatment rooms, experience our playroom, read and watch television. Our treatment rooms are equipped with high tech intra-oral and extra-oral cameras that kids just love. They’ll be able to see their mouths inside and out! After their visit, they’ll be rewarded with a loot bag full of goodies and a helium balloon, inflated by “Windy the Clown”.
After making your child feel comfortable, we will examine their teeth, gums, tongue, lips and roof of the mouth. Depending upon your child’s age, number of teeth present and ability to cooperate, we may order low radiation x-rays to determine normal development of permanent teeth. We may also clean your child’s teeth and recommend the application of fluoride or a sealant to help protect the teeth.
An early introduction to proper oral care habits, including regular dental checkups, and following your Dental Health Care professionals’ suggestions for healthy teeth and gums will help keep your child’s smile healthy for a lifetime. Book your appointment for Children’s Preventive Dentistry today!
