How Will I Know When It’s Time For Wisdom Teeth Extraction?
The decision to remove or extract wisdom teeth isn’t always clear. Your AXIS Dental Group Dental Professional will complete a thorough oral exam and take digital (low radiation) x-rays before offering treatment options. If extraction is recommended, the surgery will be performed in our office, under appropriate anesthesia to maximize your comfort. We also take care of other difficult and complex extractions. You’re in good hands with us.
Wisdom teeth may not need to be removed if they have grown in completely, are positioned correctly and can be cleaned as part of your daily hygiene regime. However, many times, wisdom teeth don’t have room to grow properly and can cause problems. Erupting wisdom teeth can grow at various angles in the jaw, sometimes even horizontally. Sometimes wisdom teeth only partially emerge through the gums. Other times, they remain completely hidden. Wisdom teeth that aren’t able to emerge normally become impacted, or trapped, within your jaw.
If the wisdom teeth emerge partially through the gums, a passageway is created, which can cause problems. Passageways are often difficult to see and clean. They can become a magnet for bacteria that cause gum disease and oral infection. Wisdom teeth extraction may be recommended by your AXIS Dental Group Dental Professional if you experience symptoms of pain, repeated infections, gum disease, cysts or extensive tooth decay.
