Wisdom teeth is the name given to the last or 3rd molar in your mouth. They usually grow into the mouth in your late teens or early adulthood. The eruption of these teeth was supposed to correspond with the arrival of maturity and ‘wisdom’, hence the name. Generally speaking, everybody has wisdom teeth, though some may be missing one or more of them.
Wisdom Teeth Extractions
Wisdom teeth extractions refer to the removal of your wisdom teeth from their socket. Extractions are performed for a variety of reasons, but are most commonly done to remove teeth that are damaged due to periodontal disease, tooth decay, or from dental trauma such as a toothache or even a sports injury. Wisdom teeth can sometimes be “impacted” (stuck and unable to grow normally), resulting in recurring gum infections unless removed.
