Perhaps you’re missing one tooth, several teeth or even all of your teeth. Dental Implants are an effective and long-lasting solution for restoring natural-looking teeth and beautiful smiles. At AXIS Dental Group we’re often asked what’s involved in getting a dental implant. Today’s blog includes a step by step explanation as to how confident smiles are restored.
Initial Consultation
We take a total team approach to coordinated care based on the implant option that is best for you. During the initial consultation, an individualized treatment plan is developed by a team of AXIS Dental Group professionals specially trained and experienced in oral surgery and restorative dentistry.
Whether it’s a single tooth or even all your teeth, we can remove your old teeth, insert the implants and add the temporary crowns (if required) – all in the same day – for $1,200 per implant (excludes bone graft procedures).
Step One:
During your first appointment, your old tooth/teeth will be removed. The tooth root implant, which is a small post made of titanium, is placed into the bone socket of the missing tooth. Temporary crowns are added. The healing process can take from six to 12 weeks. As the jawbone heals, it grows around the implanted metal post, anchoring it securely in the jaw.
Step Two:
Once the implant has fused/bonded to the jawbone, a small connector post (abutment) is attached to the post to securely hold the new tooth. To make the new tooth or teeth, impressions of your teeth are made. The impressions accurately depict and record all of your teeth, their type, and arrangement. Your new implanted tooth is based on this model. Your AXIS Dental Group dental professional will match the color of the new teeth to your natural teeth.
Step Three:
The replacement tooth/crown is attached to the abutment. Because the implant is secured within the jawbone, the replacement teeth look, feel, and function just like your own natural teeth. Instead of one or more individual crowns, some patients may have attachments placed on the implant that retain and support a removable denture.
