Teeth Whitening: NITE WHITE® Bleaching Process
One of the most common cosmetic dentistry procedures is teeth whitening (also known as bleaching). Most teeth can be whitened or bleached quite easily.
External teeth whitening occurs when vital teeth are bleached by direct contact with a safe and commonly used whitening agent, known as carbamide peroxide. Research indicates that under the supervision of a dentist, this whitening agent is completely safe for both teeth and gums.
There are a number of reasons why your teeth may become discoloured. Aging, the consumption of staining substances (coffee, tea, colas and tobacco), trauma, tetracycline (antibiotic) staining, excessive fluoride, nerve degeneration and old restorations can all result in stained teeth.
Fortunately, you don’t have to suffer through this uncomfortable or embarrassing condition. Teeth whitening or bleaching is a simple option that lightens discolorations in your teeth’s enamel and dentin (layers of the tooth). The results can be dramatic.
There are a number of ways to whiten teeth. At AXIS Dental Group, we use the NITE WHITE® bleaching process. This system uses a clear peppermint cream, piña colada or wild cherry flavoured gel in a custom-fitted tray that is worn over your teeth either while you’re sleeping or during the day.
Who Can Benefit From Teeth Whitening
Almost anyone can benefit from teeth whitening. However, there are some cases where this treatment may not be very effective. Contact us to setup an appointment to determine if teeth whitening is an option for you. To learn more about teeth whitening, please visit the FAQ section of our site.
We’ll complete a thorough examination of your teeth and diagnose whether you’re a candidate for this procedure. Our teeth whitening system is ideal for patients who have healthy, unrestored teeth and would like to have a whiter, brighter smile.
Teeth whitening is not recommended for pregnant or lactating women or people with serious health conditions as studies have not been completed on its safety under these circumstances.
The Teeth Whitening Process
- During your initial examination, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth. This will allow us to create custom-fit gel holding trays for you
- During your second visit, you’ll be fitted with your trays and be given your NITE WHITE® gel along with specific instructions
- Follow these instructions (and those of your dentist) while continuing to maintain proper oral hygiene through regular brushing and flossing
